For customers who cannot select “Snipe Bid” on Mercari Auction:
This issue is caused by old data remaining in your browser, and clearing that old data will resolve the problem. Please try performing a hard refresh of the page or clearing your browser cache before trying again. If that is difficult, you may simply choose Instant Bid instead.About Mercari Auctions
- Mercari Auctions differ from Yahoo! Auctions in that the bid
amount instantly becomes the current price.
An auction starts when the first bid is placed, and it ends between 8:00 PM and 8:59 PM on the day after the first bid is made.
Example
If the current price is 1,000 JPY and there are no bidders:
Placing a bid of 5,000 JPY will immediately change the current price to 5,000 JPY.
On the bidding screen, you can only bid 100 JPY or more above the start/current price.
Example
If the start price is 1,000 JPY, the minimum bid is 1,100 JPY.
For snipe bidding:
Snipe bidding is performed manually by our staff. As this service is handled outside of business hours, a success fee of 2,500 JPY will be charged if the auction is successfully won.
When multiple customers request bidding on the same Mercari auction,
We sometimes receive overlapping bid requests.
Below is our policy for handling such situations. We operate using only one Mercari account.
Example:
- Customer A: 9,000 JPY Maximum Snipe Bidding
- Customer B: 5,000 JPY Maximum Snipe Bidding
Using the same account, we place bids in order as follows near the end of the auction:- First, we place Customer B’s bid of 5,000 JPY.
- Then, we place Customer A’s bid of 5,100 JPY.
In this case, Customer A wins the auction at 5,100 JPY.To maintain fairness, we do not disclose each customer’s bidding situation to the other before the auction ends.
After the auction has finished, we will inform both customers of their bidding results.
Important Notes
- If a bid is placed shortly before the auction ends, the ending time may be extended. According to Mercari Support: “We cannot disclose the detailed specifications regarding extension time.”
- Once a bid is placed, it cannot be canceled or changed.
- The seller may end the auction early at their discretion.
- Because the extension time is unpredictable, the maximum bid amount cannot be changed near the auction end.
